Oat Milk
0 -12 months
Oat Milk can be purchased or created.
If purchased should not contain added flavor, sugar or salt.
Ingredients/Items needed:
Purified/Filter/Spring water
Bowl
Spoon
Oats (no sugar, salt, flavor)
Ice cube trays/small containers (optional)
Measurements:
Equal water & oats mixer
Example:
1 cup of oats
1 cup of water
1 to 2 tsps of fruit juice (optional-learn how from the book or in the workshop)
Blend:
Add the raw oats and filtered/purified water to a powerful blender for at least 30 seconds, until the water looks creamy and white.
Strain Once or Twice:
Next, place a fine mesh strainer over a large bowl and pour the oat milk through it. Some liquid may pool at the bottom of the strainer. Discard this liquid and any oat pulp below it. DO NOT try to press the pulp to get more liquid through the strainer, as it will make the milk slimy and gritty.
For extra-smooth oat milk, strain the liquid twice, discarding the leftover pulp both times. This step is optional, but it will yield the smoothest final texture.
Warm or drink as is:
Unlike other dairy-free milks, don’t shake it when you go to use it. Instead, allow any leftover oat pulp to settle at the bottom of the container, and pour the creamy milk off the top.
Alternatives:
If the mixer is too thick then add more water.
If mixer is too thin mix more oats with less water.
If you want your child to have more flavor then you can add a little fruit or vegetable juice to the formula mixer.
The older the child the more you can mix - just remember that the main ingredients is the milk.
Consider infant/baby vitamins drops if needed according to your child's doctor if they are not getting enough vitamins
Storage:
Refrigerator: 4-5 days (this maybe less amount due to other ingredients are included for flavor)
Freezer: up to 3 months (this maybe less amount due to other ingredients are included for flavor)
