Baby Formula Ideas
What Happened to all of the Baby Formula
Baby formula has always been expensive. We may have done it....What's that? At the end of the baby formula, there is only a half serving left so we add more water to stretch out the food supply. Growing up in the city of Detroit with 7 brothers & sisters things were tight including food.
My parents always believed in feeding us the freshest food possible when they could. My dad did not eat meat and consumed a lot of grains, fruits, vegetables, and supplements.
I would have to say at the age of 76 he does not wear glasses, take any kind of medicine, or need any assistance in getting around.
When it was time for me to have children I would breastfeed them, use formula, try soy milk, and lastly whole milk. I was able to take the steps and recipes that I learned and used for my 4 children as they got older.
Let's dive into some alternatives that have been used to ensure that your child will always have a nutritious meal to eat.
2 Great Starter Recipes to Feed Your Baby
Plain Yogurt Milk

Any "plain" whole milk yogurt can be used (national brand or store brand) that do not contain added sugars, colors, flavors or salt.
No low-fat or non-fat yogurts

Purified/Filter/Spring water
Bowl or bottle
Spoon
Plain whole milk yogurt
Ice cube trays/small containers (optional)
Measurements:
Equal water & yogurt mixer
Example: 8oz bottle
4 oz yogurt
4 oz water
1 to 2 tsps of fruit juice (optional-learn how from the book or in the workshop)
Blend/Mix:
Add the yogurt and filtered/purified water in equal amounts in your container.
The water can be warmed up prior to putting the mix together.
Bowl: Mix until the water & yogurt looks like a milk and can pass through the nipple of the bottle for feeding.
Bottle: Shake the water & yogurt until it looks like milk and can pass through the nipple of the bottle for feeding.
Temperature Check:
Check on your wrist on tongue to ensure the temperature of the milk is not too hot for them to feed.
Time to EAT!!
Alternatives:
If the mix is too thick then add more water.
If mix is too thin add more yogurt in the mix.
If you want your child to have more flavor then you can add a little fruit or vegetable juice to the formula mix.
The older the child the more you can mix - just remember that the main ingredients is the milk mix.
Consider infant/baby vitamins drops if needed according to your child's doctor if they are not getting enough vitamins
Storage:
Refrigerator: 1-2 weeks (this maybe less amount due to other ingredients are included for flavor)
Freezer: 1-2months (this maybe less amount due to other ingredients are included for flavor)
Remember: Make sure you do the smell test
Oat Milk
0 -12 months
Oat Milk can be purchased or created.
If purchased should not contain added flavor, sugar or salt.
Ingredients/Items needed:
Purified/Filter/Spring water
Bowl
Spoon
Oats (no sugar, salt, flavor)
Ice cube trays/small containers (optional)
Measurements:
Equal water & oats mixer
Example:
1 cup of oats
1 cup of water
1 to 2 tsps of fruit juice (optional-learn how from the book or in the workshop)
Blend:
Add the raw oats and filtered/purified water to a powerful blender for at least 30 seconds, until the water looks creamy and white.
Strain Once or Twice:
Next, place a fine mesh strainer over a large bowl and pour the oat milk through it. Some liquid may pool at the bottom of the strainer. Discard this liquid and any oat pulp below it. DO NOT try to press the pulp to get more liquid through the strainer, as it will make the milk slimy and gritty.
For extra-smooth oat milk, strain the liquid twice, discarding the leftover pulp both times. This step is optional, but it will yield the smoothest final texture.
Warm or drink as is:
Unlike other dairy-free milks, don’t shake it when you go to use it. Instead, allow any leftover oat pulp to settle at the bottom of the container, and pour the creamy milk off the top.
Alternatives:
If the mixer is too thick then add more water.
If mixer is too thin mix more oats with less water.
If you want your child to have more flavor then you can add a little fruit or vegetable juice to the formula mixer.
The older the child the more you can mix - just remember that the main ingredients is the milk.
Consider infant/baby vitamins drops if needed according to your child's doctor if they are not getting enough vitamins
Storage:
Refrigerator: 4-5 days (this maybe less amount due to other ingredients are included for flavor)
Freezer: up to 3 months (this maybe less amount due to other ingredients are included for flavor)
Remember: Make sure you do the smell test
What to expect
Introducing anything new to your baby to eat may be different as they go through different stages. Their taste buds will begin to change and they will want to try different things.
What I did with my children was introduce something new after 2 weeks or more when I thought they were ready for a change. This did not occur for them until after 3-4 months.
These methods I was able to use for my 4 children and they are growing up very healthy and smart. I want you to be able to feed your children with the best ingredients out there at the best price.
